Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow

The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow is a Catholic university, employing nearly 260 academic staff, providing studies for about 3,000 students at 6 faculties (Canon Law, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Theology, Theology Section in Tarnow and History and Cultural Heritage) at full-time and part-time studies, post-graduate and doctoral studies.

Apart from the basic didactic activity, according to the University’s statute, the academic staff and PhD students conduct scientific research in the fields of theology, philosophy, history, social sciences, psychology. The university carries out scientific and research grants financed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In addition, the university has research facilities including: Interdisciplinary Textile Conservation Laboratory; Monuments Inventory and Digitalisation Laboratory; UPJPII Library with a collection of almost 400 thousand books, about 700 manuscripts, over 5.5 thousand old prints with electronic resources and remote access; Academic Media Centre – the latest media technology equipment and specialised computer programmes. The laboratories are secured by modern monitoring and equipped with a system of monitored logistics of use. They include a television laboratory, an editing room, a reporter’s studio, a television studio.

Maria Luszczynska, PhD, works as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow. Her research interests include assistance skills, competencies of social workers, social issues related to old age, intergenerational relations, social awareness of aging and dying; she is an expert for the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy and other government institutions.
