Austria – Dr. Carolin Kollewe


Dr. Carolin Kollewe is a social anthropologist highly experienced in the field of ageing, care, and artefacts in different cultural and international contexts. In these areas, she has lectured, investigated and published mainly on the following aspects in the last years: technology in care work for the elderly, the cultural construction of ageing and old age; the ageing–migration nexus, especially with regard to concepts of “cultural sensitive” care; voluntary work and political participation of elderly people; and the ageing workforce. Previously, she concentrated primarily on Material Culture and Museum Studies. During her current employment as Head of Research Center at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Carolin Kollewe focuses mainly on ethical and social aspects of technologies for the elderly and of medical engineering.
